Qualifier Yuki Bhambri from India played well before being beaten 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 by the ATP 59th ranked Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in the first round of the ATP 500 in Dubai on Monday.
Yuki, playing only in his third tournament on return after a two-year forced hibernation owing to injury, collected 10 ATP points for qualifying into the main draw.
After competing in the ATP Tour event in Singapore on a protected rank, Yuki won the doubles title with Saketh Myneni in the $15,000 ITF tournament in India, before stepping it up in the ATP-500 event in Dubai.
Earlier Yuki eased past his fellows Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Ramkumar Ramanathan to make the main draw in Dubai.
