Japan defeated Pakistan 4-0

Asian Round up for World Group I

Japan defeated Pakistan 4-0

India lost to Finland 1-3

Uzbekistan lost to Norway 1-3

Lebanon lost to Brazil 0-4

Korea Rep defeated New Zealand 3-1

In the end only 2 Asian nations move up to Qualifiers for 2022- Japan and Korea, Rep. and they were lucky to play against nations from Asia Oceania zone itself. It will be sad to see limited Asian nations at the qualifiers in 2022.

World Group II

The format moves same for the World Group II like for the World Group I. World Group II ties involving 24 nations were held in September 2021 after 1 of the tie was held in March 2021. The eight (8) highest ranked , winners of the World Group II ties, based on Davis Cup rankings , as on 20th September 2021 ,will be promoted to the World Group I play off’s for 2022. The remaining four (4) winners will again play in November on 1-1 basis. The winner of these 2 ties will also be promoted to World Group I play off’s in 2022 along with the above mentioned 8 nations. Asian Round up for World Group II

China PR lost to Zimbabwe W/O

Chinese Taipei lost to Morocco W/O

Thailand lost to Denmark 1-4

Indonesia lost to Barbados 1-3

None of the Asian nation won at World Group II stage and all the Asian nations got relegated to World Group II play-off for 2022.

This format is not bringing much cheer for majority of the Asian Nations as they continue to slip down the ranks.

Asia Oceania Group III

Asia/Oceania Group III ties were held in Amman, Jordan from 15 – 18 September 2021.  The zonal ties played on a round robin and 2nd stage knock basis saw three (3) nation promoted to World Group II play-off in 2022 while the 3 bottom teams of each of the round robin groups will be relegated to the Asia/Oceania group IV for next year.

Hong Kong defeated Jordan 2-0 in AO Group III

Hong Kong, Vietnam and Pacific Oceania were promoted to the World Group II Playoff for 2022. Sri Lanka, Kuwait and Qatar have to unfortunately move down to the lower levels of Group IV of Asia/Oceania Zone.

For Qatar it is very unfortunate to be moving down to lowest levels. Before the new format they almost qualified for A/O Group I, but with the new format in place they now find themselves in the lowest group at the regional level.

Sri Lanka who was always in Asian Oceania Group II and even figured in Group playoff I for last many years, also find themselves reeling in lowest groups. Sri Lankan Davis Cup team also faces an uphill task in the coming years to move up the ladder.

Asian Oceania Group IV

The Asia Oceania zone Group IV ties are scheduled to take place in the week of 18th October in Bahrain which will feature 14 Asian nations to trace 3 teams for promotion to Asian Oceania Group III for 2022.
