The ITF South Asia Regional Qualifying Event of ITF Asia 12&U Team Competition 2021 commenced at PTF-SDA Complex Islamabad, Pakistan from 13th September 2021.
The President Pakistan Tennis Federation, Mr. Salim Saifullah Khan welcomed the teams and wished them good luck for the matches. He reiterated that such events were a golden opportunity for players to get international exposure at such a young age, and hoped it will go a long way in developing young talent. He also hoped that sports diplomacy will further help in generating goodwill in the region.
Mr. Tariq Murtaza, Senior Vice President-PTF has also formally welcomed the participating teams, appreciate the efforts of the PTF management for organizing the event in a highly befitting manner during the opening ceremony.
Prominent Pakistan player, Aqeel Khan was also present during the opening ceremony and witnessed some of the matches. He was of the opinion that such events provide much-needed exposure to the young players.
Earlier, the Captains’ meeting was held virtually on Sunday 12th September, in which all the team captains, the Tournament Referee, Tournament Director, ITF Development Officer for South Asia Mr. Jonathan Stubbs and ATF Executive Director-Operations Mr. Puneet Gupta were present. The draws for the event were also conducted, with Secretary-PTF Col Gul Rehman(R) starting the proceeding by taking out the first pick.
This is the first time in Pakistan’s history that an ITF Junior Team event is being hosted by Pakistan in which the teams from India, Nepal, Maldives and the host Pakistan are participating.
The South Asia Regional Qualifying Competition will be conducted from 13th to 15th September where the teams will play a round robin format to decide placements of the teams.
The Top two (2) teams from each category will be promoted to the Finals of ITF Asia 12&U team competition which will be held in Nur-sultan, Kazakhstan in month of November later this year.
