Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Syria Earn Promotion to Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs

Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Syria prevailed in the 10-team Davis Cup World Group III Asia/Oceania competition that concluded in Amman, Jordan on Saturday. The three teams secured promotion to the World Group II Playoffs for season 2025.

Davis Cup World Group III Asia/Oceania Event was hosted by Jordan Tennis Federation at Amman, Jordan from 10-15 June.

In the round-robin stage, the competition featured two pools of five teams each with the top two teams from each pool earning direct promotion.
In Pool A, Saudi Arabia dominated, finishing first with an impressive four wins. Singapore followed in second place with two wins, narrowly edging out Vietnam, which also had two wins but fell short and finished third.
Indonesia and Malaysia rounded out the pool, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, each with one win.

In Pool B, Thailand showcased their strength by winning all four of their matches, securing the top spot. Syria finished second with two wins, followed by Jordan, also with two wins but ranked third due to the head-to-head record.

Iran managed one win to place fourth, while Pacific Oceania ended up at the bottom without any victories.

The final day of the event (15 June) was packed with excitement and nail-biting encounters. In the playoff for the top position, Thailand triumphed over Saudi Arabia in a closely contested tie, winning 2-1. This victory not only placed Thailand at the top but also confirmed their dominance throughout the event. Saudi Arabia, despite the loss, secured the runner-up position and a direct promotion to the World Group II Playoffs.

The promotional playoff for the third qualifying spot saw Syria face off against Vietnam. In a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, Syria emerged victorious with a 2-1 score line, earning their place in the World Group II Playoffs.

Battles for Ranking and Survival In the 5th-6th position playoff, host nation Jordan defeated Singapore in another evenly fought tie, which they won 2-1. Indonesia overcame Iran with a similar score line to secure the 7th position.

The relegation playoff saw Malaysia and Pacific Oceania facing off against each other, Malaysia dominated the tie, winning 2-0, thus Malaysia & Pacific Oceania relegated to the world group IV for 2025 as they finished at the bottom of their respective pools.
