Women’s team tennis takes centre stage in Delhi: BJKC Asia/Oceania Group – 1

The Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group I will bring a big week of women’s team tennis to New Delhi, with the tournament set to be played at the DLTA Stadium from 7th to 11th April, 2026. Six teams will compete in the event, making it one of the most important team competitions in Asia this season.

India, Indonesia, Korea Republic, Mongolia, New Zealand and Thailand will all be part of the tournament. The competition will be played in a single round-robin format, so every tie will be important right from the start. By the end of the week, the top two teams will move on to the Billie Jean King Cup Play-offs, while the bottom two teams will be relegated from Group I.

That format is what makes this event so interesting. There is very little room for a slow start, and every nation will need to be ready from day one. In a team competition like this, one strong singles performance, one important doubles win, or one tight tie can change the whole picture. That is why Group I events often bring a special kind of pressure.

Just a year ago, the host, India created a special moment in Billie Jean King Cup history when the team finished runner-up in the Asia/Oceania Group I event in Pune and qualified for the Play-offs. It was a memorable week for the women in Blue, with Shrivalli Bhamidipaty winning all five of her singles matches, including three against higher ranked players. That qualification was India’s second time in history to the Billie Jean King Cup Play-offs. Later in 2025, India had the chance to compete in the Play-offs again at home in Bengaluru, but losses to the Netherlands and Slovenia ended that campaign. Even so, those back-to-back milestones showed the steady progress of India’s women’s team and gave Indian tennis another reason to look ahead with belief.

For India, playing at home adds something extra to the tournament. Competing in New Delhi means the team will have the advantage of familiar conditions and home crowd support, but it also comes with added pressure and expectation. The DLTA Stadium is also a very suitable venue for an event like this. It has been one of India’s most well-known tennis venues for many years and now gets another chance to host a major international team competition. With six nations in the draw, and some of the strongest women’s teams in the region taking part, Delhi can look forward to a week of high quality tennis and close contests.

This event once again shows the importance of regional team competitions in tennis. The Billie Jean King Cup is the biggest women’s team event in the sport, and Group I is an important stage for teams trying to move higher.

From 7 to 11 April, six teams will battle in Delhi for two valuable places. With strong competition and plenty to play for, the BJKC Asia/Oceania Group I promises to be an exciting week for women’s tennis in the region.
