The road to Singapore that was underway in Nonthaburi, Thailand from 4 to 8 May has now produced its qualifiers, with the ITF Asia 12&U Team Competition, Regional Qualifying Event of South East Asia ending with the top teams in both the boys’ and girls’ events confirming their places in the next stage.
In the boys’ competition, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam finished as the top three teams and secured qualification for the Finals in Singapore. In the girls’ event, the qualifiers were Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, who also finished in the top three to book their places in the Finals later this year.
That brought a successful end to an important week in Nonthaburi, where the region’s young teams came together for another key stop on the 2026 pathway. As the opening article had already highlighted, this South East Asia leg was part of the wider structure of the ATF 12&U Team Competition, with the South Asia event already completed in Nepal, Central Asia still to come in Uzbekistan, and East Asia also waiting later in the calendar before the Finals in Singapore from 15 to 20 September.
For the teams that came through, this week meant more than just a place in the top three. At the 12 and under level, events like this are often among the first big chances for young players to represent their countries with a team spirit. That was clear throughout the week in Nonthaburi. Beyond the results, the week was also about team, handling pressure and understanding what it means to play for your country.
The final day then settled the remaining positions. In the boys’ 1st and 2nd position tie, Indonesia and Thailand were locked at 1-1 before rain forced the match to be abandoned, leaving the teams to share second place. In the girls’ 1st and 2nd position match, Malaysia beat Indonesia 2-1. Vietnam finished strongly in the boys’ 3rd and 4th position match, defeating Malaysia 2-0, while Thailand secured third place in the girls’ event with a 2-0 win over Singapore.
The final standings showed how close this week had really been. There were strong teams, tight ties and enough twists to keep things open until the very end. For the teams that qualified, it was the reward for staying steady through the tournament. For the others, it was still an important week of matches, learning and experience. And now, with the South East Asia leg done, the road to Singapore is clearer for the teams that are still moving forward.
