The ATF 14 & Under Grade A South Asia event concluded in Hyderabad, India, with Puneeth Manohar and Zoha Qureshi emerging as the boys’ and girls’ singles champions after a week of competitive junior tennis.
Top seed Puneeth Manohar completed a successful campaign by defeating fellow Indian Aarav Chhallani 6-2 6-3 in the boys’ singles final. Puneeth controlled the match from the outset and capped an impressive week by adding the singles title to the boys’ doubles crown he had won alongside Aarav a day earlier.
The girls’ singles final produced one of the competitive matches of the tournament. Fourth seed Zoha Qureshi upset top seed Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar 7-5 7-6(1) to capture the title. Padmapriya had progressed through the draw without dropping a set and entered the final as the favourite, but Zoha delivered a composed performance in the key moments of both sets to secure the biggest title of her young career.
The doubles titles were shared between India and an international pairing. In the boys’ doubles event, top seeds Aarav Chhallani and Puneeth Manohar defeated Thailand’s S. Laoamormpanich and Hong Kong, China’s Ho Wan Yeung 4-6 6-2 (10-6)in the final. In the girls’ doubles competition, top seeds P. Daungkhiaw of Thailand and Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar claimed the title with a 6-3 6-3 victory over Vattaprambil and Krishika Gautem.
The Hyderabad tournament marked the conclusion of the South Asia stage of the ATF 14 & Under Grade A Series, bringing together many of the region’s leading junior players. Throughout the week, the event provided valuable international competition opportunities and another important step in the development pathway for Asia’s rising tennis talents.
