The ATF 14 & Under Grade A Central Asia Championship concluded in Fergana region, Uzbekistan with Uzbekistan’s S. Farkxodov and Korea’s Yoonseol Choi winning the boys’ and girls’ singles titles respectively.
Third seed Farkxodov recovered from a set down to defeat top seed Taanish Nanda of India 2-6 6-2 6-4 in the boys’ singles final. After losing the opening set, the Uzbek player responded strongly to take control of the match and secure the title in front of the home crowd.
The girls’ singles final saw Choi overcome Kazakhstan’s Marita Gulya in straight sets. The Korean player edged a closely contested opening set before pulling away in the second to record a 7-6(6) 6-3 victory and lift the trophy.
Farkxodov also added the boys’ doubles title to his successful week. Partnering Kazakhstan’s S. Barlykov, the pair defeated India’s Aarav Chhallani and Adeshbir Ghuman 6-2 6-1 in the final. The Uzbek-Kazakh duo produced a strong performance throughout the match to claim the championship.
In the girls’ doubles event, India’s Zoha Qureshi and Khushi Kadian came back from a set down to capture the title. The Indian pair defeated N. Hudaykulieva of Turkmenistan and Mengxiao Li of China 2-6 6-0 10-7 in the final. After a difficult opening set, Qureshi and Kadian responded impressively before sealing victory in the match tie-break.
The tournament brought together some of the region’s leading 14-and-under players and provided another important opportunity for young athletes to gain international competition experience. With the Central Asia leg now completed, attention turns to the South Asia leg of the ATF 14 & Under Grade A series, which begins on 15 June in Hyderabad, India.
