25th Sept, 2026 – Nagoya : The courts were busy in Nagoya on Friday as players continued their preparations for the Asian Games tennis competition. Away from the practice sessions, captains, coaches and other team members met with the referee team and chair umpires to go through the arrangements for the week ahead.
The meeting covered the courts, match procedures, clothing rules and the use of electronic line calling. Considerable time was also spent discussing the weather. The local forecast indicates a high chance of rain when play begins on Sunday. Four indoor courts are available, but organisers hope to keep matches on the outdoor courts for spectators who have bought tickets. A decision on moving play indoors will be made closer to the time, depending on conditions.
The draws for men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles were released on Friday. The order of play has yet to be announced. Practice continues on Saturday before matches begin on Sunday, 27 September, at the Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Center. The tennis competition runs through 3 October.
Alexandra Eala heads the women’s singles draw, with China’s Zhang Shuai seeded second and Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva third. In the men’s singles, Hong Kong, China’s Coleman Wong is the top seed, followed by Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko. Korea Republic’s Soonwoo Kwon, China’s Wu Yibing, India’s Sumit Nagal and Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki are also among the seeded players.
There is plenty to watch in the doubles draws, too. India’s Anirudh Chandrasekar and Sriram Balaji are the top seeds in men’s doubles, while China’s Hanyu Guo and Zhang Shuai lead the women’s doubles draw. Chinese Taipei’s Chenjui Ho and Hao-Ching Chan are the top seeds in mixed doubles.
Not every player named in the draws is in Nagoya yet. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals are taking place in Shenzhen from 22 to 27 September, while the Singapore Tennis Open, a WTA 500 event at OCBC Arena, is also being played this week. With tennis continuing elsewhere in Asia, teams are making their final preparations at different times.
On Friday, some players were still making their way to Nagoya while others were already out practising. The captains’ meeting brought the teams and officials together to settle the final details. Practice continues on Saturday, with the first matches scheduled for Sunday.
