Colombo campaign ends with Malaysia and Vietnam moved to the Final-Qualifying

Malaysia and Vietnam booked the two qualifying spots from the 2026 Junior Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying event, which was played in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 23 to 28 March. Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan finished just behind them to complete the top four in a competitive week of junior team tennis.

The Pre-Qualifying event was the first stage of the Junior Davis Cup in the Asia/Oceania region. From this stage, only the top two teams moved on, which meant Malaysia and Vietnam earned the right to advance to the Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, scheduled for May, 2026.

The challenge in Shymkent will be even tougher. Malaysia and Vietnam will join a stronger field that includes some of Asia’s established tennis nations such as India, Japan, Korea, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and others, making the next stage a much bigger test.

Still, the week in Colombo gave all four leading teams something to take pride in. Malaysia and Vietnam moved forward to the Final-qualifying spots, while Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan also showed encouraging form during the tournament. For all of them, it was another reminder of the talent coming through in Asia/Oceania junior tennis.
