Paris has always been one of the great meeting points of world tennis, and during Roland Garros, the city once again became a place where the future of the sport was discussed beyond the courts. On 29 May 2026, at Hotel Molitor in Paris, the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) and the South American Tennis Confederation (COSAT) renewed their Cooperation Agreement, taking forward a partnership that first began in 2024.
The agreement was renewed by ATF President Mr. Yuriy Polskiy and COSAT President Mr. Rafael Westrupp in the presence of the international tennis community. Members of the ITF Board of Directors, members of the ATF Board of Directors, and friends and colleagues from the French Tennis Federation (FFT) also graced the occasion.
The timing made the moment even more meaningful. Roland Garros is not only one of the great stages of tennis, but also a place where people from different parts of the tennis world come together. For ATF and COSAT, it was the right setting to celebrate an existing partnership and to look ahead to the next chapter of cooperation between Asia and South America.
The ATF-COSAT partnership was first signed in 2024 with the aim of bringing the two regions closer through tennis. One of the early areas of cooperation was the 12&U category, where the agreement helped create more opportunities for young players to gain international exposure. As part of this cooperation, ATF invited COSAT to participate in an international 12&U team competition in Asia, including the event held in Kazakhstan. COSAT also invited ATF teams to take part in the Copa COSAT 12 Anos, giving young Asian players a chance to experience competition in South America.
The renewal of the agreement also carries special importance because both Asia and South America have ongoing connections with the Roland Garros Junior Series. Through the collaboration with Roland Garros and the French Tennis Federation, young players from the regions have been able to access important pathways, including wild card opportunities, to reach the junior Grand Slam stage.
With the renewed agreement, both Presidents confirmed the continuation of the existing areas of cooperation. They also identified new fields where ATF and COSAT can work together more closely.
One of the new areas includes support from COSAT to ATF in the growth of Beach Tennis knowledge. COSAT’s experience, particularly through the Argentina model of increasing participation, will be explored as a possible learning point for Asia. At the same time, ATF will support COSAT by sharing its knowledge and experience in U12 participation, coaching and team competition structures. This exchange of ideas can help both regions strengthen their development systems and create more opportunities for young players.
This wider approach is important because tennis development depends on many people and systems working together. Players need strong competition, but they also need good coaching, better pathways, tournament opportunities and exposure beyond their own region.
For ATF, the renewed agreement reflects its commitment to connecting Asian tennis with the global tennis institutions. Asia has a large and growing base of young players, and partnerships like this can open new doors for them at an important stage of their development. For COSAT, the partnership also strengthens its connection with Asia, a region where tennis continues to grow across different age groups and levels.
At Roland Garros, a venue known for history, tradition and global tennis culture, ATF and COSAT once again underlined the value of working together. The evening of 29 May 2026 became more than just a signing ceremony. It became a moment to celebrate friendship, cooperation and a shared vision for the future of tennis across two continents.
