The Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) is deeply saddened by the passing of former ATF Vice President and Secretary General Suresh Subramaniam, one of the most respected administrators in Asian tennis. For more than two decades, Mr. Subramaniam played an important role in the growth of the sport across the region, while also playing a key role in the development of tennis in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Subramaniam joined the ATF Board of Directors in 2002 and was appointed Secretary General in 2005. He later served as Vice President, becoming the first Sri Lankan to hold the position. During his time with the Federation, he worked closely with member nations and played an important role in the growth of the Asian Junior Circuit, giving young players across Asia more opportunities to compete and develop.
A former Sri Lanka No. 1 in both singles and doubles, Mr. Subramaniam represented his country in the Davis Cup and later captained the national team. As President of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, he helped expand the game beyond the capital, strengthened coaching programmes and supported the return of wheelchair tennis to the country.
Beyond tennis, Mr. Subramaniam also served as President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka from 2018 to April 2026. He was also a member of World Tennis committees, where he continued to support the development of the sport.
The Asian Tennis Federation extends its sincere condolences to the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, the Subramaniam family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His contribution to Asian tennis will continue to be remembered with great respect.
