Eighth seeded Sania Mirza of India entered the second round of $170,000 AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships 2005 after defeating qualifier Vilmarie Castellvi of Puerto Rico 61 63.
In another first round match qualifier Su-Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei lost to sixth seed Gisela Dulko of Argentina 26 75 62.
