Thai brothers win doubles title at Chennai Open

Thai twins, Sonchal Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana overcame a stiff resistance from Marcos Bagdhatis and Marc Gicquel 6-4, 7-5 to win the doubles Chennai Open ATP title in Chennai on Sunday night. The Thai stars rode on superb on court understanding to defeat Cyprus-French pair to claim their second career doubles title. Baghdatis and Gicquel, pairing together for the first time, had difficulties and were not cohesive in their approach as they committed many a unforced errors. Sonchal and Sonchat had achieved their first doubles victory on the tour at Bangkok in September last year (2007).

The pair continued with their game plan of total attack and relied on a pacy game to be in superior position throughout the match. Bagdhatis and Gicquel wilted under pressure after the Cyproit was broken in the seventh game in the first set and then surrendered the initiative.

The winners required just a break in the second for closing out the match and broke Gicquel in the 11th game for the title.
