15 boys team were competed for the region’s four available spots at the World Junior Tennis Competition Finals to be held on 4-9 August in Prostejov, Czech Republic. China, Korea, Australia and India are the four countries that qualified for the Finals. Due to rain, the last day of play on Saturday 19 April had to be cancelled.

In the girls competition, Australia, China, Japan and Uzbekistan are the four countries that qualified for the Finals in Prostejov.

VENUE-

The Yuetong Sports club is situated in very picturesque surrounding. The Tennis court facility is facing a pristine Lake and the hotel is in the same compound. Certainly a attractive venue for JDC , JFC and WJTC events.

CAPTANS MEETING ( 13 th APRIL) –

The captains meeting started at 4 .00pm with all the captains present. After a brief welcome message by Mr . REN YI the Tournament Director and the official of the CTA , the ITF representative conducted the meeting and discussed all important issues indivually. Many questions were answered but some captains due to communication problem were still hesitant. Even they were encouraged to talk through the interpreter and some improvement was seen. On the whole a successful meeting with Kazakhastan and New Zealand making changes in the Team nomination and Tajikistan submitting only two player line-up due to sickness of the top player who returned home.

Earlier the Referee conducted a small seminar with the court officials, who all had small experience and communication problem but were all very excited.

OPENING CEREMONY - MONDAY 14thAPRIL

A slightly delayed opening ceremony was very well received by players and captains' because of the unique presentation arranged by the local organisers. The ceremonies started with parade of athletes from each nation well complemented with their National Flags. This was followed by a small message by Tournament director Mr REN YI , ITF Representative , and local city representative After this al guest and players were entertained to a five minute dragon dance which became very popular with the participants. On court was also two live Beijing Olympic mascots to add to the merriment.

Finally group pictures were taken before end of the ceremony. Each participant and coach was given stuff toys mascot of the Beijing Olympics.

   
   

Daily Reports (Thursday and Friday)

On Thursday top 4 seed INDIA , AUSTRALIA , CHINA , KOREA got their place in the world group , with little problem. India dropped the doubles to Uzbekistan after winning the first 2 singles very convincingly 62 61 & 61 60.

The placement results were in favour of Japan , Thailand & Indonesia.

Friday however , was a different story. Both the Topseeds India and Australia were knocked down by China and Korea respectively. Korea took the easier path by straight sets wins in both the singles.

The China - India match was very close Zhao CAI put China 1 up by beating Digvijay Singh Mehta of India 64 64 , then Indian Ronit Bisht equalised for team by winning against his Chinese counterpath Xin GAO 63 61 , to set up a winner take all doubles. The Indian pair of Mehta and Singh took the lead over Tao Jung Nan and Xin Gao by winning the first set 63 and leading 4-1 in the second, but the Chinese duo recovered to win the set at 7-5.The Indians led again in the 3rd and final set 3-1 but then Tao Jun Nan found its rythom the in his volleies , and his team won the next 5 games to win the set ,match and the tie.

Tao Jun Nan apparently the number 1 player in the chinese national ranking shows a lot of potential
